The second item that I chose from the Lush Valentine’s Day collection was the Close to You scrumptious vanilla bar. I am VERY on the fence about this particular item. It is a smooshable massage bar that is supposed to be excellent for one long entire body massage. I absolutely LOVED the scent, which was described as shortbread and raspberry jam. However, I could not get past the bright pink tint that the massage bar put on everything I owned. My hands could not be washed free of the pink and my bathrobe met a similar pink fate. On the bright side, all clothing that was covered in odd pink spots came clean in the washing machine. Although there was no permanent damage, I won’t be purchasing the colored concoction from next year’s collection for fear of the color pink attacking me again.
Taking care of your skin is of the utmost importance so my nighttime skincare routine leaves nothing to chance. It ends up being something I really quite enjoy after a long day. I start by taking off all my makeup. I find that the Neutrogena Makeup Remover cleansing towelettes are the best makeup remover wipes I have ever found. It even takes off really stubborn mascara and waterproof eyeliner.
Then, I use my go to cleanser, Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. I love this cleanser and have raved about it in a previous post. Check it out here! I love the creaminess of the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, but instead of using it with the muslin cloths, I use it with my Clarisonic Mia. It works amazingly! It scrubs off anything and everything that is left over from makeup removing wipe and the Clarisonic does what it claims, it deep cleans! After washing my face, I tone it with Clinique Clarifying lotion for dry to combination skin. I tone my skin all over with a cotton pad and I really enjoy the cool tingling feeling that the Clinique toner provides.
My next step in my nighttime skincare routine is to apply Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum Collagen Booster as my nighttime serum all over my face. I notice, after weeks of use, my skin is brighter than it was before, but i’m still hoping to notice a fading in my post acne scars. The huge plus of this serum is the delightful citrus scent that comes with it! As I let that dry, I dab on my Fresh Lotus Eye gel, which immediately cools and calms my under eye area and as a bonus it smells AWESOME too! I take a 5-10 minute roundabout walk around the apartment as I let my serum and eye gel soak into my skin. After that, I use Origins Drink Up-Intensive overnight mask as my nighttime moisturizer. I love this moisturizer for Winter weather as my skin gets drier!
One of the products that I have to admit I didn’t love is Nail Rock. In theory, the product sounds great! Who doesn’t want a glittery red nail polish to rock out with once in awhile? The reality of the product is a little messier. It requires too many steps and too much precision. First step, put on nail polish. Second step, put on the messy glitter topper. If you are like me and quite untalented at either step, all you will end up with nails that look like they were painted by a 2 year old. It looks like I’ll be sticking with my manicurist when I need a red glitter on my nails.
Mascara! I actually enjoy the idea behind this 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Natural Mascara. I like the idea of a natural mascara, especially for those who search for natural makeup products and can’t seem to find them. However, I don’t think any mascara on the face of the planet will make me leave my Dior Blackout Mascara. It lengthens and volumizes my lashes too much to leave it in the darkness of my makeup drawer, but I respect Birchbox for trying to give natural makeup girls a holy grail mascara.
Last stop on the January Birchbox train was the Juara Candlenut Body creme. I really liked the smell of this body creme, but the sample size was quite small so I was unable to test out the cream on my legs. My legs need the most moisture so the fact that I can’t test it out there means I won’t be buying a full size version. I already have so many body lotions that I love, I don’t see a resounding need to add this one to my list.
I was not too impressed with their January box, but I am excited to see what Birchbox has in store for February!
Another necessity that I really needed to stock up on was The Body Shop’s body butters. The Body Shop is well known for their large selection of amazingly scented butters and I am not immune to wanting to stock up whenever I see a sale. I decided to splurge and get a HUGE container of their Satsuma Body Butter. The Body Shop jumbo container is a bit more expensive than the usual body butters. I usually stock up on their body butters when they are on sale for $10, but the jumbo container is a steep buy at $25. Besides the big container of the Satsuma Body Butter, I wanted to try out one of their newer scents, the one that claims to smell like chocolate, Deluxe Edition Chocomania. While the scent doesn’t resemble a delicious dessert, it is a good body butter that emits a more nutty, than chocolate scent. It was an interesting butter, but not something I would get again if I was interested in a chocolate scent.
Something I was really excited to try was the Vineyard Peach Body Lotion. It is a great everyday body lotion with an amazing scent that even my boyfriend comments and compliments me on! It keeps my legs smoother in between shaves and if you’re looking for a new go-to body lotion, I would totally suggest the Vineyard Peach body lotion.
One of the highlights of the sale was the holiday kits from the Body Shop. These little kits contained miniatures of their great products and if you know me, you know how much I love mini things! One of the adorable holiday kits I was ecstatic about was their Strawberry Cupcake bath set. The set contains a miniature Strawberry shower gel, an adorable strawberry mini heart soap and two cute red and pink mini loofas. All of these products smell delicious and are perfect for traveling. They definitely make me want to start planning my next trip.
Every year, as Fall rolls into Winter, Starbucks changes their cups from the drab everyday green and white to a super festive red and gold to celebrate the holiday season and the bringing back of the holiday beverages.
This is by far the best and my favorite primer ever! I have to admit that this is my HG face primer! It goes on like a velvet cream and minimizes the appearance of all pores so your foundation goes on really smooth.
It also does a really good job of mattifying my combination skin without over drying the already dry parts. I have gone back and forth using other primers, but I continually go back to Benefit’s the POREfessional because it really is that great!
Another upside is that it doesn’t mess with my sensitive, acne prone skin. The only downside is the price, which can be quite steep given that it is a rather small tube of product, but I think it’s worth it.
Comfy Cashmere Sweater
Another must have favorite for the cold Winter season is a mountain of warm sweaters! Everyone has their own personal favorites and mine is a black cashmere sweater that I’ve owned for forever.
I throw on this sweater almost everyday over whatever outfit I’m wearing so I can stay cuddly and warm when it’s cold outside.
The only downside of cashmere sweaters is the difficulty in washing. They are all usually dry clean only, but I’ve found that I can handwash and hang dry mine and it works just the same! Stay warm this holiday season and make sure to have lots of comfy sweaters!

This week was no different. My sister and I popped into Lush last night while we were meandering the streets after eating dinner at the Tipsy Pig. We wandered around the store as the sales girl tried to direct my sister to different products that she might enjoy. I, however, need no help and immediately head to look at all the Christmas bath bombs! I sniffed and smelled and sniffed again and finally decided on two of their Christmas themed bath bombs and one of their year round bath bombs.
