There are just some basic essentials that every girl knows is necessary for a work desk. Items that you never go a day without using and always come in handy in the nick of time. These are some of my Desktop Essentials.
I think hand cream is an absolute essential for my desk. Each time I use the bathroom and carefully wash my hands at work, I walk back to my desk knowing my hands are going to be super dry for the rest of the day. I can’t stand the feeling of uncomfortably dry hands so I always keep a little bottle of travel hand moisturizer on my desk at work. My favorites right now are the tiny Bliss hand moisturizers that I pick up at Sephora or on my way out of the Bliss Spa. I have been loving the Blood Orange & White Pepper scent.
I also work in an office full of guys so the office can get a tad messy. Also offices, in general, tend to be a big area where germs can easily spread. When I first started at my current job, one person was sick and came into the office anyway. By the same time the next week, more than half of my office was out sick with the same illness (eeekkk)! My little mini solution for this is to always keep a hand sanitizer on my desk. Now, hand sanitizer isn’t going to stop me from ever getting sick, but at least I know I’m doing a little bit to keep myself healthy and to keep germs at bay. I love the little pocketbac hand sanitizers from Bath & Body works. They are so cute and mini and always smell amazing (no gross purell alcohol scent). I’ve been loving the Bath & Body works fall scents and my current favorite is Crisp Morning Air.
The writing utensils that you keep on your desk are very important! I actually believe the pen/pencil you use on a daily basis says a lot about you. Are you a pencil or a pen girl? Do you prefer ballpoint or felt tip? Do you use clicky pens or cap pens? For me, I like to keep an array of fun writing utensils on my desk like these festive pencils from Design Darling. They’re bright and colorful and have cute little thoughts engraved onto each pencil.
I tend to be a tad forgetful at times, especially the busier I get. What helps me keep it all together is my weekly agenda! I can’t remember a time when I didn’t use an agenda to organize what was going on in my day-to-day, keep note of tasks that needed to be completed or simply to write down something I wanted to remember later (like the name of that song I loved on the radio!). This year’s agenda is from Kate Spade and I have been totally loving it! It’s striped on the outside with polka dots on the inside lining. It has fun little sayings at the beginning of each month. It even has cute little pockets in the front for me to stick my miscellaneous notes into. Everything about it screams Kate Spade cute and I love to open it up and write down the days events and to-dos.
After I write down all of my daily to dos and events, I like to use a fun set of highlighters and correspond the colors with different tasks. I just got this new set of Sharpie Clickable Highlighters from Amazon and I can’t stop highlighting things! My entire agenda is all marked up with different colors corresponding to different events I’m going to and to-dos that have yet to be completed. I think highlighters are a great way to introduce some color and a bit of fun into your everyday scheduling.
I am a BIG tea and coffee drinker, especially at work. I always start off my morning with a cup of coffee to get me pumped to get to work and I like to drink cups of tea throughout the day to give myself little breathers. With that being said, it’s a complete necessity for me to have a mug on my desk at work. I use that mug at least 4-5 times a day so I definitely get my money’s worth out of each one I have. I love this Kate Spade polka dot mug. It brings a bit of cheer and pattern to my otherwise boring black work desk and shows off a bit of my personality in the workplace.
